Diego Romano Interview

The Ergotelis player Diego Romano talked exclusively to the Super League website about his family's life after football and pointed out that: "Our first concern is to return to Argentina. However, it gets more difficult for us to leave Greece the longer we are here," and added that: "Should we stay in Greece, I would be really happy if I worked with Ergotelis from another post." Moreover, the Argentine midfielder, when asked which was the season when Ergotelis fielded the best squad in his opinion, he replied that: "in my opinion, we fielded the best squad during the 2010/11 season when we finished in the 8th place of the table," and also talked about his son saying that: "I hope he will become a footballer and that he will play top level football; I will always be by his side to help him with everything he needs." Would you like to stay in our country after you finish your career or do you wish to return to your country?

"Our first concern is to return to Argentina. However, it gets more difficult for us to leave Greece the longer we are here. We cannot tell for sure right now, time will tell."

 

Have you thought about helping Ergotelis by taking over another post?

"Yes, I have thought about it. Should we stay in Greece, I would be really happy if I worked with Ergotelis from another post. This would be really good."

Do you believe that Ergotelis will achieve its goals for this season?

"Yes, I am certain we will. We will achieve the goals we have set. We work hard during training every day and we will continue to do so until the end of the season."

What have you advised your son Thiago as regards his professional career? Would you like him to follow in your steps?

"He is still young. The truth is he is talented. The important thing for me is for him to be playing, enjoy it and be happy.
I hope he will become a footballer and that he will play top level football; I will always be by his side to help him with everything he needs.

You have been playing in the club for many years now. Which season did Ergotelis field the best squad?

"Many great players have played for Ergotelis and we had a good squad in many seasons. Nonetheless, we fielded the best squad during the 2010/11 season when we finished in the 8th place of the table."

Which is the best moment you have had with Ergotelis?

"It was our club's promotion in the Super League last season. Because both the team and I had gone through many hardships. I was coming back from an injury, I stayed in the club and we all managed to accomplish our big goal which was to return Ergotelis to the league it belongs to, to the first division."

Which footballers participating in the Greek championship, that you have played against, stand out and why?

"Many great players have played in the Super League during my years in Greece. Cissé was a great player who made a big difference in Greek football. Ibagaza is yet another player."

 

Which mantinada would you like to dedicate to the fans and supporters of Panathinaikos?

"I can only thank them for their love towards me. I hope they are satisfied with my contribution to the team and my efforts in every match. I hope we will continue to be together for as many years as possible."

 

What is your favourite hobby?

"I like having a good time with my family and friends."

 

Were you not a footballer, what would you rather be and why?

"I do not know that. I thank God for giving me the opportunity to turn my passion into my profession."
