Giannis Anestis Intereview

The Panionios goalkeeper Giannis Anestis talked exclusively to the Super League webpage about the presence of his club in the championship so far: "We knew from the beginning of the season that we had an exceptionally difficult championship ahead of us," pointed out to continue that he admires Orestis Karnezis and Iker Casillas and that he believes that "it's a great advantage that 30 out of the 31 players are Greek since this means that we all know what it means to play for this club and what we need to do in order for the club to achieve its goals." The full interview:

You have been among the starting 11 for four consecutive matches. Are you ready to use this opportunity to become one of the regular starting 11 players for Panionios?

Yes, I have played in 4 matches and I believe I am ready to use this opportunity and become one of the regular starting 11 players in my team so I can help it...!

What would you do from now on in order to become a regular in the team, in your opinion?

I have to continue working the way I do because it is your work that helps you achieve your goals and secondly because I can show my good self when on the pitch!

Question by Marina Georgiou

Which goalkeeper do you admire and why?

Among the Greek goalkeepers, I admire Orestis Karnezis because he has many strong points and among international goalkeepers, Iker Casillas whom I admire since I was a little kid!

What was the goal set by the club at the beginning of the season? Has this goal changed following the completion of the first round?

We knew from the beginning of the season that we had an exceptionally difficult championship ahead of us. We have worked hard in order to deal with all challenges and to secure our non-relegation to the next division as easily as possible.

Question by Giorgos Karoulias

Having completed the first half of the championship, which are the moments you will remember and which ones will you forget?

The highlight I wish to remember is my first participation in this season's championship in the match against Panetolikos in Agrinio. It was a special moment for me, following my debut appearance with Panionios in last season's last match against Olympiacos in "Georgios Karaiskakis". The moment I wish to forget is my serious injury during the club's preparation phase that hampered me, but thank God I managed to overcome it.

What are the team's strong and what are its weak points, in your opinion?

Our greatest advantage is that almost all footballers have been playing for the club for several years now. We may be young, but this is something common in Panionios, our club. I also believe it's a great advantage that 30 out of the 31 players are Greek since this means that we all know what it means to play for this club and what we need to do in order for the club to achieve its goals.

Next match, you are playing home against OFI. Is this yet another final?

Every game has its own degree of difficulty. The same stands for the match against OFI. I wouldn't say it's a final since this is just the first match of the second round. But this is a home match and we have to win these matches in order to achieve our goal. We have an especially hard campaign ahead of use during the following month and we have to give our best in order to amass as many points as possible.

What are your hobbies?

I listen to music and watch films. If I have enough spare time, I like to spend it with good friends.

What did you ask from Santa Claus?

I asked to become one of the 11 starting for my team and at one point to be called to play for the Greek National Team.

What is your wish for the New Year for everyone?

I wish good health to everyone.
