Henri Camara Interview

Henri Camara, the Senegalese striker playing for Panetolikos, spoke from the heart in his exclusive interview for the official website of the Super League and pointed out that "I feel well here and I would like to finish my career in Panetolikos." At the same time, he reminisced about his brilliant international career and talked about his experience in the 2002 Football World Cup "when Senegal reached the quarter-finals. I scored two goals in our 2-1 win against Sweden and gave two assists in our 3-3 draw against Uruguay." He also gave some advice to budding footballers by saying "they should not be carried away by bad company when young."

Would you like to finish your career in Panetolikos? What will influence your relevant decision?

- I feel well here and I would like to finish my career in Panetolikos. The first thing on my mind is to have a good season, all fans to be satisfied by my performance and I will think about the future then.

Is the love and support you receive from the fans a reason to make you stay in Agrinio and Panetolikos?

- This is proven by my presence in the club the past three years. No one can predict the future, however the first thing on my mind right now is to give my best for the club and its fans this season so we can achieve our goal of staying in the league.

How did you decide to become a professional footballer? Were you thinking about this since you were young?

- No, I was not thinking about becoming a professional player. When I was voted best young Senegalese player at the age of 18, I then realised that I could do this. There were many French clubs interested in me back then, such as Auxerre, Metz and Bordeaux, but I finally signed a contract with Strasbourg.

What is your highlight as a footballer in your opinion?

- It was the 2002 World Cup when Senegal reached the quarter-finals. I scored two goals in our 2-1 win against Sweden and gave two assists in our 3-3 draw against Uruguay.

What do you think about the city of Agrinio and its residents? How do people treat you in the street?

- I am used to living in Agrinio. It is not a big city like Athens, but I feel really well. People respect me and they show me this every time they meet me on the street. I wish to return this love to them through my on-pitch performance.

Do you believe that the club can play in the play-offs following some proper additions in the roster during the January transfer window? How would you feel if this became possible?

- I do not believe it is my job to judge whether the club needs new players or not. I believe that the first thing is to make sure we will not get relegated. If we achieve this, then we can set some extra goals.

Which Greek footballer do you admire the most and why?

- I admire Mitroglou since I believe that he can have a great career both on an international and on a local level. I then admire Manolas who is a fast and strong defender and has the talent required to have an international career.

Which do you believe is the most important goal you have scored and which is the best club you have played for in terms of its organisation?

- The most important goal is the one I scored the day following the birth of my son during the 2006/2007 season against Charlton, while playing for Wigan. Wigan is the most organised club I have ever played for.

Have you seen the flag I hang in every match at the small stand?

- I have of course seen it and I feel very happy about it. I wish to thank you for this since it gives me an extra motive in every match.

What does it take to make a good footballer? What would you advise a young player that wishes to play professionally?

- He has to work hard and be focused. He must not be carried away by bad company when young. When everything that is required to play professionally is at your disposal, then you can reach high. This was my father's advice when I was a little boy. This is what I say to young people as well.
