Giannis Siderakis Intereview
"I am certain we will get back on track. We all have to do our self-criticism and then move forward through our work," pointed out Giannis Siderakis in his exclusive interview for the website of the Super League. The Kalloni goalkeeper intends to play for the Greek National Team again and "manage to play for an international club." The guardian angel of the Kalloni goalposts highlighted that "the way things evolved and the way the championship evolves, our primary goal is to amass points and not play spectacular football," and also talked about the Kalloni stadium saying that "at some point, we have to return to our natural home in Mytilini." Question by Anastasios Metikidis
How many hours do you train per week?
Do you have any extra training sessions in order to improve? "Approximately 12 hours per week. We only train with the team. We are not allowed to have any extra training (workout, etc.) since it is not scheduled for and it may lead to opposite results."
Question by Dimitris Karampetsos
Which great player's penalty kick would you wish to clear and why? "Since it is a life dream for me to play in a top championship for an international club, I would wish to clear a penalty kick taken by Totti. I believe that he is a top player and that, despite his age, he continues to be an icon for Italian and world football.
Question by Panagiotis Tzitzinas
What is your dream as a footballer?
"I wish to play for the Greek National Team and also play for a competitive international club. In any case, I believe that this is the dream all players participating in the Greek championship have."
How do you judge your club's presence in the championship so far? Are you satisfied with the points you have amassed until today?
"Our 9 points in 8 matches are considered satisfactory, given that we were just promoted to the Super League, and are therefore inexperienced in this league. We are of course unhappy with the continuous unfortunate results, but I believe that if we stay focused on our work, we will achieve good results too."
Question by Mihalis Kallas
Kalloni had a really strong start in the championship, but has been counting four losses in the latest matchdays since. In your opinion, what is the reason behind this and what will you do from now on to change it?
"I am certain we will get back on track. We all have to do our self-criticism and then move forward through our work. At the same time and at some point, we need to return to our natural home in Mytilini, which will give us extra strength. The situation now is psychologically and physically tiresome. Every matchday is practically an away match for us…"
The next match is away, against Panetolikos. What is your prediction about this particular match and what should you pay attention to as a team, in your opinion?
"This is a really difficult match in a strong away stadium. The Panetolikos stadium is full every time and fans are the 12th man for the Agrinio team. The fans greatly push Panetolikos forward. If we are careful and do not concede a goal, then we will have a positive result. Because I believe that a draw in this match is a positive result too. The way things evolved and the way the championship evolves, our primary goal is to amass points and not play spectacular football."
What was the goal set by the club at the beginning of the season?
"The goal of course was not to get relegated since we are newly promoted to the Super League. Of course, following our three initial consecutive wins, some were in a hurry to set even higher goals for the club… Nonetheless, our main goal for this season was and still is our staying in the Super League."
Would you wish to remain in the club the following season as well?
"As a philosophy and a way of life, I always look at the present and never at the past or the future. I now play for Kalloni, this is my club, I have a great time here, I love the club and I also love our fans! If the club stays in the Super League, I wish to continue playing for the club as well. I certainly never forget my life dream, which I mentioned earlier. But I insist on thinking about the present."
What would you like to say to the fans and supporters of Kalloni?
"We want the fans to be by our side since our club is trying really hard and against many odds. I wish all of us to continue together and at the end celebrate a beautiful conclusion to the season, as beautiful as our start."
What is the meaning of your tattoos for you?
"I have 7 or 8 tattoos. Each has a special meaning for me. They are mainly about family members and about the faith man has to have in his abilities and in the achievement of his goals."
What is your favourite hobby and how do you spend your spare time?
"Basically, my occupation is my hobby. This is really basic for everyone. This is how you live and perform better. In any case, while the championship lasts, I do not take any risks so as to not get injured. When I am on holidays, I like to play beach volley."
