SPYROS VALLAS INTERVIEW

"I feel lucky to be playing for Skoda Xanthi all these years" pointed out Spyros Vallas in his exclusive interview for the website of the Super League, and continued by saying that: "I will never forget the club's participation in the European competition in 2002." At the same time, he sent his message to the Xanthi fans by saying that the club "deserves the best possible support." The full interview:

This year will see you for 10 years in Skoda Xanthi. What are your memories and which are the moments you will never forget?

I feel lucky to be playing for Skoda Xanthi all these years. I have lived many good moments with the club. However, the moments I will never forget are the club's participation in the European competition in 2002, which was the first participation in the history of the club in European matches, as well as the matches against Lazio. These were unique moments that I will never forget.

Question by Giorgos Panagiotou

Which was the goal the club set at the beginning of the season? Has this goal changed following the completion of the first leg?

We started the championship this season with many ambitions, however, following the completion of the first leg, we are not that satisfied with the points amassed. However, we still have a whole leg ahead of us and I believe we have the potential and the quality required to finish as high as possible in the classification.

Question by Pavlos Kontos

What is your opinion on the return of coach Marinos Ouzounidis and in which way can he improve the club's image?

In football, conditions and correlations can change from one day to the other. We have a coach that knows us well and we know him well, and we will all continue to work hard in order to take the club where it deserves to be.

What is the club's strong and what is its weak point, in your opinion?

One can see the strong and weak points of the club in each match, through its playing. Lately, the club appears to be finding its playing rhythm and the balances required and I believe this will be our strong point during the second leg.

You have not managed to win in eight away matches. What do you believe goes wrong during the away matches?

When winning away, as we say in football, the team gains more confidence and a winning spirit. During the second half of the competition, we will have to show a better face and more determination in order to win away matches.

What is your impression from this season's championship and what do you see for the future?

This year's championship is of lower quality in comparison to previous years and this is reasonable considering the problems most clubs face. Nevertheless, all clubs do their best in the field and this is why we see some hard and competitive matches, something that will continue until the end of the championship.

What would you like to say to the fans and supporters of Xanthi?

I have to be honest to the fans and supporters of the club and admit that these past seasons, we were mediocre.

Nonetheless, Skoda Xanthi is the pride of the city and the region in general, with great success all these years in the Super League. I believe the club deserves the best possible support from its fans.

What are your hobbies?

I like to spend my spare time with those close to me.  I also like reading and I always find the time to read an interesting book.

Question by Aris Hadjidimitriou

Did you have any proposals during your professional career to play for an international club? If so, by which club and why did this not happen?

I believe that an international career is a tremendous challenge for any Greek football player. I am glad to see more and more Greek footballers playing abroad these last years. I was not lucky enough to live this.
