Super League dedicates the 9th matchday to the Organ Donation Volunteering cause.

On the occasion of November 1, Greek Day of Organ Donation, Super League in cooperation with the Hellenic Transplant Organisation and the Heart/Lung Transplantation Association and Friends "SYNEHIZO", dedicates the 9th Matchday of the SUPER LEAGUE OPAP, to be held on November 3, 4 and 5, to the Organ Donation Volunteering cause.

This campaign will add to the informing and awareness of supporters in order to urge them seek information and understand the importance of Organ Donation. The slogan at the heart of the campaign will be: "Thousands of Greek people live thanks to Transplants. Organ donation: Learn, Think, Decide."

The president of Super League, Mr Giannis Moralis, noted: "For the third consecutive year, this campaign is a reminder that Organ Donation constitutes the highest form of volunteering and altruism to save patients, as it is also the basic condition for the effecting of transplants. The organiser of the championship puts the dynamic of football, the most popular Greek sport, into effect towards the promotion of activities that act in benefit of the common interest. We call all supporters to get information and be sensitive towards an act that is a gift of life."

The vice-president of the Heart/Lung Transplantation Association "SYNEHIZO" Mr Petros Kakolyris stated: "Each year, hundreds of our fellow citizens wait for a great gift from society so they can go on with their lives: the donation of organs for transplantation. From one donor, after brain death has been diagnosed, up to twenty patients can be saved. This is why you should support and spread the idea of Organ Donation. Besides, statistics show that the possibility that each of us would need an implant at some point in our life is bigger than the possibility to donate our organs after death. Therefore, the message is 'PASS THE BALL TO TRANSPLANTS" to save a life."

The president of the Hellenic Transplant Organisation Mr Anastasios Hatzis, pointed out: "The initiative of the Super League to dedicate the 9th matchday to the Organ Donation Cause constitutes a significant contribution to the efforts of the Hellenic Transplant Organisation, from a sport that is widely loved by the public, such as football. The particularity of transplants is due to the fact that their development and wider use is dependent not only upon scientific and technological advancements, but mainly upon the awareness and participation of social authorities and the entire population. The goal of the Hellenic Transplant Organisation is to connect the Idea of Organ and Tissue Donation to the general idea of volunteering and to make it an act of humanity and civilisation. The acceptance and spreading of the IDEA OF ORGAN DONATION is an act based on selflessness, humanity and love for the suffering fellow-being; these are the virtues that form the core of the athletic ideal."
