Super League supports the Greek Homeless football team for the third consecutive year
In the 5th matchday of the Super League – OPAP in the game between FC ATROMITOS and FC OLYMPIACOS (Peristeri stadium, Saturday 29/9, 19:30), fans will have the opportunity to meet the members of the National Homeless Team and send their own support and solidarity message. Shortly before the match kick-off, the squad will step on the pitch to declare "Kick Off Poverty, Racism and Dependencies".
The Greek Homeless football team is already at the final stage of its preparation in view of its participation in the 10th Homeless World Cup to be held between October 6 and October 14 at Mexico with 68 participating national teams. The motto being "Kick Off Poverty", homeless people, refugees and people formerly dependent on psychotropic substances, our fellow human beings who found themselves marginalised by society, will enter the stadia with a double target: to win the Homeless World Cup but, first and foremost, to win back their lives. The Homeless World Cup is a top sporting, but most importantly, social institution taking place each year with the support, among others, of UEFA and the United Nations.
The president of Super League, Mr Giannis Moralis, said: "Super League once again stands in support to the effort of the National Homeless Team and intends to firmly embrace any similar effort of social awareness as regards problems tormenting many of our fellow human beings. This particular institution, with the support of UEFA, aims at bringing awareness to the problems they face and their struggle, supporting at the same time their efforts to reintegration. With are very pleased to embrace the players of the National Homeless Team and we send them our message of solidarity and respect. We are certain that the fans who will watch the match between FC Atromitos and FC Olympiacos will also support this effort with their ovation."
The National Homeless Team, at its first participation in this institution in Copenhagen 2007, was awarded the fair play award.
